All servers in the company are running Windows Server 2012 R2. The disk array fails on a fle server named FileSrv1. I replace the disk array & required to recover the server as quickly as possible and allow users to connect to the fle shares on FileSrv1. What should you do? That solution must require to restore permission as well.

Windows Server 2016 Essentials Backup completed with warnings.
We have been having an ongoing issue with the built-in Windows Server Backup on our Windows Server 2016 Essentials. It has been very inconsistent since install of the server. We may get a run of 3 or 4 successful backups then a run of 3 or 4 backups that say completed with warnings. The error we are getting when it completes with warnings is Windows Server Storage VSS Writer - The writer's timeout expired between the freeze and thaw events. We have already increased the timeout and the server is currently up-to-date with updates.
The EFI System Partition, C Drive, and Recovery backup without issues. The Bare metal recovery back says backup failed to complete. The System state says backup canceled. System state backup was canceled.
IP and FQDN conflict when restoring server
Hi all
I have put together a server as a test. The next step is to use it to check the integrity of the nightly backups we run. What I want to do, is fully restore our Exchange server.
My question is, by restoring a server that already exists, will I run into IP and FQDN duplication conflicts? I ask as the first step in restoration will be to join my new "test" server to the domain?
Many thanks
Question on restoring virtual machines with multiple VHDX files
Hello,
I ended up doing a restore to a new server from a backup of a host windows 2016 server which had several virtual machines on it. One of the machines was a file server - it has an OS VHDX file and a DATA VHDX file where all the user files are stored - likewise our exchange and sql server had multiple VHDX files. When I did a restore it restored them and they booted up with multiple partitions but they are now on single VHDX files for each server.
Is there a way to backup or restore differently so it creates the individual VHDX files when I do a full restore of each?
Why is copying to a local UNC path so slow on my Windows 2008 R2 server?
I have a Windows 2008 R2 server named Server that runs a backup each night to an encrypted USB drive attached to the server. I shared the drive on the server as shown below and configured Windows Server Backup to backup to the local shared folder.
- \\Server\Backup
Everything worked well for several months with the backup speeds being about 1 GB/min (15 to 20 MB/s). At the beginning of this week, I noticed that the backup speeds reduced to 1 to 2 MB/s which resulted in the backup not completing before the encrypted disk was automatically dismounted.
After much research and testing, I believe that I have narrowed down the cause of the issue to an issue writing data to the local UNC path of \\Server\Backup as shown by comparing the following tests.
Test 1
- c:> copy largefile h:\
The above DOS command copies the file to the encrypted drive mounted at h:\ quickly.
Test 2
- c:> copy largefile \\Server\Backup
The above DOS command copies the data to the same location but was 33x slower that the Test 1 DOS command.
I duplicated the above results using the xcopy command instead of the copy command but could not duplicate the above results on my Windows 7 computer. On my Windows 7 computer, the two versions of the copy performed the same.
The following are some additional observations:
- If I change the backup location to an external UNC like \\Sever2\Backup, everything works well.
- After repeatedly running Windows Server Backup after make changes such as restarting the server and tweaking the NIC parameters, the backup will all of a sudden start backing up at the normal speed but this will only last for about an hour before it reduces back to the slow backup speed.

KB2781272 - Anywhere on this planet where I can get this hotfix?
I am in need of KB2781272 for my Windows Home Server 2011 but all links to its existance are no longer valid. I understand that support for this product stopped in April of 2016 but I am only looking for a hotfix file that, I would assume, still exists someplace. I am not looking for support, just the hotfix. Does anyone know where I can find it? Microsoft support has taken the attitude that its a dead product and will not seem to help. Not sure why there is no archive of old hotfixes someplace. Anyone have any ideas where I might be able to get this hotfix?
Thanks.

Windows 2016 Server Backup (WSB) to a NFS share fails
I'm trying to take Windows Server 2016 Backup using Windows Server Backup feature to a NFS (Network File System) share created on another windows server but failing with error
"A backup cannot be done to a remote shared folder which is not hosted on a volume formatted with NTFS/ReFS"
Please let me know how to overcome this?
Configuring Windows Server Backup on Network Share. Getting "A specified logon session does not exist. It may already have been terminated"
Dear Windows Team,
I am getting Error "A specified logon session does not exist. It may already have been terminated" while configuring BareMetal backup using Windows Server Backup with Network Share option.
All Windows Servers are configured to put the backup on a Highly-available File server connected with SAN. only 2 servers are giving this error while configuring backup. NTFS and Share Permissions are in-place and configured on the remote share.
Operating systems of both the configured server and file server are Windows Server 2008 R2. I have tried various user accounts (including Local Admin, Domain admin & Enterprise Admin).
Any thought/idea to quicken the troubleshooting process?
Thanks.

Server 2012R2 Backup Completed with Warnings
Hello. We have a Windows Server 2012 R2 server that is having an issue completing backups successfully. If we were to reboot the server, we will get one successful backup but then all subsequent backups will be Completed with warnings until the server is rebooted.
The server is Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard running Hyper-V. The vhd and vhdx files backup with out issue but when trying to backup the virtual servers online, we get the backup failed to complete.
The full error is Completed with warnings. Backup succeeded but some components backed up were inconsistent in the snapshot. The application this component belongs to may not function properly after this backup is used for recovery.
wbadmin delete backup - delete version but does not delete version in Explorer
Environment: Windows 2012 R2
Hi,
Perhaps someone can explain this for me . . .
I am performing a BareMetal backup to a local volume on the server.
I have a scheduled Bi-Weekly BareMetal backup. One hour before the backup, I run a maintenance task to keepVersion:2 so that only 2 versions of the BareMetal backup are kept.
The next BareMetal backup which is run is successful. I open a PS session, runwbadmin get versions and it shows 3 BareMetal backups performed. 2 weeks later, the next maintenance scheduled task is run, it removes the oldest BareMetal backup and displays 2 BareMetal versions (wbadmin get versions). When I open Explorer, under WindowsImageBackup\<Servername>, it still shows the BareMetal backup version which was deleted. I.E. runningwbadmin get versions shows 2 versions of the BM backup, but 3 versions exist in Explorer.
As this continues, the BM's are deleted when running wbadmin get versions but the files are not being removed.
If this continues without my checking it, I will eventually run out of disk space.
Why aren't the files for the BM backup being deleted when my maintenance task (wbadmin DELETE BACKUP -keepversions:2) runs?

"Windows Backup cannot read the backup destination" when trying to backup to Backup Once to Samba share on NAS
Environment:
Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials running in VirtualBox in a Windows 7 host. Networking is configured and works fine.
Background:
My only backup needs are to copy the contents of two folders to a NAS folder every day at 2 AM.
I configured a backup schedule in Windows Server Backup (wbadmin) to a network location which is hosted as a Samba share on a Synology NAS.
For authentication, I created a backup user which has the same username and password as a user on the Samba share, with permission to read and write the backup folder. I added this user to the Backup Operators group.
Problem:
When I try to run the Backup Once operation to test my backup, I get the following error message:
"Windows Backup cannot read the backup destination."
What I've tried:
I verified that the location is directly accessible in Windows by copying and pasting the address from the Windows Server Backup destination into explorer. Providing the backup user credentials opened the location and creating/reading files worked fine.
Adding the backup user to the Administrators group did not have an effect.
Update 2014-02-18
I checked the backup destination and was surprised to find that the scheduled backup actually completes successfully. However, Backup Once always results in the above error message. So the problem is confined to the "Backup Once" operation.
Windows Server backup, all critical/bare-metal job failing - 2019 Essentials
Good Afternoon,
I need some help with Windows Server Backup (wbadmin) for Server 2019 Essentials. The setup is a VM Domain Controller hosted using Hyper-V Core. I can carry out a file backup but when I try and carry out a bare-metal or critical It keeps failing. I've tried backing up to attached disk/volume added through the Hypervisor (D:) on the VM, and a share on a NAS, but without success.
Below are screenshots and the related logs, any help would be much appreciated!
